This session is focused on using concrete and semi-concrete, as well as abstract representations to support students’ learning of mathematical concepts and procedures.
We will do math, engage with worked examples from classrooms and have time to think about how to implement these strategies in YOUR classrooms.

Teachers will...

  • learn best practices as presented in the What Works Clearing House Guide to Mathematical Practices
  • do math and think about their own practice
  • leave with specific strategies of how to move students along the representational continuum from concrete to abstract
